Glad Rags

Glad Rags is a wardrobe that observes and investigates the stories surrounding the garments, all of them. With a transversal vision and an approach to pop culture, giving relevance to those pieces that you had never wondered where they came from. Which bring us to our very first issue: pyjamas. An item of clothing with a wide variety of styles, different and unique trends; each with its own particular narrative and that is no longer segregated to be worn in our home and exclusively during sleep.

Graphic Elisava 2020

Lots of things tend to happen during a graphic.elisava master’s program. Mountains of research. Maybe one or two existential crises. Designing so much that you have nightmares about mismatched hex codes.

In some weird twist of fate, this year’s biggest ‘thing’ ended up being a global pandemic. We were forced to embrace digitalism over presentialism, do more with less, and channel disillusionment into positivity. In school, the lesson comes before the test, but life often takes the opposite approach. We think we’re better for it.

PLATFORM AND IDENTITY

For this year’s degree show we decided to continue the digitalist lifestyle that we’ve come to know. Pills replace name tags, thumbnails replace handshakes, and ingenuity replaces normality in order to illustrate how we view topics like “design ethics”, “comfort”, “manifestos”, and “freedom”.

Acknowledgements

Many thanks to this year’s students in the Graphic Design and the Editorial Design master’s degrees. The 2020 graphic.elisava Degree Show – both the platform and the campaign that precedes it – wouldn’t have been possible without the indefatigable work of a group of design students making time for it in the middle of their end-of-year presentations.

Glad Rags

Observing and investigating the stories surrounding the garments, all of them.

At a time when fashion consumption is fast and constant, we have so many inputs and so many volatile needs. We open the wardrobe and find nothing we want to wear, but can’t fit any more clothes in it. We do not value the possessions we have; we do not get attached to things; we do not create stories through them.

Glad Rags, observing and investigating the stories surrounding the garments, all of them. With a transversal vision and an approach to pop culture, giving relevance to those pieces that you had never wondered where they came from.

Which bring us to our very first issue, ever think about what’s the first outfit that you were given practically as soon as you got out of the hospital? Something that accompanies us every night?

Pyjamas, an item of clothing with a wide variety of styles, different and unique trends; each with its own particular narrative and, in contemporary times, interloping within our life to the point that is no longer segregated to be worn in our home and exclusively during sleep but is synonymous with relaxation, down time and comfort.

Taking you, the readers, on an interesting journey where you get to explore and reminisce about something so simple yet an iconic piece of clothing.
